I reached out to Matthew while I was studying for the GMAT. I had been studying for 4 months and had hit a plateau with all my practice GMAT scores coming back within 10 points of each other. At that point I was still 40 points shy of my goal. I decided to work with Matthew because of the excellent reviews he had received from past clients. While Matthew is extremely qualified to work with students on verbal or quantitative skills, I enlisted his services for Quant help as I was sufficiently strong in Verbal. Anybody can break down where you are struggling but Matthew can determine why. Matthew developed a game plan which he had me stick to that emphasized quality fundamentals within even the most difficult problems. In addition, he showed me new ways to solve problems that had been giving me issues throughout my preparation. I worked with Matthew twice a week for two hours a session over a month. I was three weeks away from my test when we finished. Over those three weeks Matthew continued to be an intrepid guide taking concerned phone calls and responding to my questions within hours no matter the time of day. The single incident that stands out most in my mind from working with Matthew was when I was a week away from my test and hadn't seen any movement in my Verbal score. Our work together had raised my Quant score significantly, but, as I hadn't worked with him on Verbal, my Verbal score had remained flat even though I thought I was improving. After a practice CAT a week before the test when I was panicked due to the lack of movement in Verbal, I reached out to Matthew for help. I showed him the questions I was missing and within 3 hours he had analyzed what I was doing, narrowed it down to a single concept I was consistently getting wrong, discussed it on the phone with me, and developed a customized lesson plan that I could access on-line with which to practice and improve (he is great with technology). I significantly beat my GMAT goal by scoring a 760 which is in the top 1% of all scores. I could not have done that without Matthew. If you are truly committed to your success, then work with Matthew. I stand by the comment that he is as committed to your success as you are. Matthew worked with my daughter for 5 or 6 weeks before she took the SAT. I wanted someone not only intelligent but also attuned to the approaches that work with this particular test. While I didn't directly observe the lessons, I was impressed with the summaries that Matthew sent, as well as with the homework he left for her to do. My daughter, while reluctant to have me hire a tutor, immediately realized that Matthew was very helpful to her. She spent time reviewing and preparing for the sessions and felt good about her preparation for the test. I worked with Matthew for almost six weeks, 2 to 3 times a week, to prepare for the GMAT. I had been out of school for almost three years and hadn't taken any math in even longer. The first time I took the GMAT I got a pretty dismal score in the quantitative portion and I was not feeling particularly confident in my ability to get the score I needed in the short amount of time I had before taking the test again. I didn't test well on the SAT, back in the day, and I've never been a fan of math in general. But Matthew is endlessly patient and always positive in a very genuine way. In my opinion, one of his greatest strengths is the fact that he teaches students at all ages and levels.
